20th Anniversary Celebration

Damariscotta, Maine – JULY 16, 2018: During 2018 The Eldercare Network of Lincoln County will be celebrating 20 years of service to Lincoln County’s older adults. Through special community based programs including an Age Positive Symposium on Friday, September 14 and open houses at “The Greens” throughout the fall, the ECN will be recommitting to their original vision of “expanding housing options for elders”.

The ECN’s 20th anniversary celebration, which kicks off on Thursday evening September 13 in the Lincoln Academy Dining Room with a reception and Human Aging: The Science of Living Longer, Healthier Lives presentation by Dr. Michael Fosse, is a chance for the ECN to launch its future vision for healthy aging.  The symposium will be an opportunity to integrate “bench mark” aging research, public policy advocacy and innovative community building ideas into our communities, regions and State’s conversations about aging.

The 20th ECN’s Anniversary planning committee is taking this time to embrace elderhood and explore new possibilities for turning the tables on stigma and ageism. To this end we are bringing together public policy leaders in the field of aging (Jessica Maurer, JD – Maine Council on Aging, Dr. Len Kaye – University of Maine Center on Aging and Laura Lee, Ph.D. – Maine Community Foundation) researcher (Dr. Michael Fossel – International Lecturer, Human Aging) and aging in community advocates (Lori Parham – AARP Maine, Marilyn Gugliucci, Ph.D. – University of New England and Author William Sadler, Ph.D.) each of whom is on the cutting edge of reframing how we perceive aging, build momentum, change the narrative, and look at community members advancing years in a positive, new, and sustainable light.

Mark your calendar’s today and spread the word about “The Greens 20th Anniversary Celebration” on Thursday evening, September 13, 2108 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle and the daylong “What’s the Buzz About Reframing Aging? Linking Aging Research, Public Policy and Community Age Positive Symposium” on Friday, September 14 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in Cheverus Hall at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Academy Hill, Damariscotta Mills.
